Assertiveness Training

Cory made a small step, nay, a large step in his assertiveness training this past Friday. We had just finished seeing Narnia and were in the process of discussing fauns and the like when the light we were sitting at turned green. Before anyone could stop him, the man to our right zipped across the 3-way stop and into the only empty space in the long row of cars... a space that belonged to Cory.

Cory snapped.

I couldn't see his eyes through his sunglasses, but I could tell they seethed with rage. I watched, breathless, as Cory raised his index finger and pointed at the man -- a point filled with guilt-casting, rage, and defiance. The man locked eyes with Cory, locked eyes as best he could when Corys were shrouded behind black pools of stoic animosity. Cory pulled out and into the lane behind the man, his arm still extended like an appendage of judgment. The man avoided all eye contact, from all 3 of his mirrors.

It was incredible. I was half expecting Cory to sideswipe the man and then drag him out of the car and punch him in the gullet.

I told Cory we needed to "throw it down" in Splinter Cell sometime.

He had no idea what that meant.
